Three CASE Faculty Receive Inaugural Dean’s Impact Awards

Three distinguished faculty of the College of Arts, Sciences and Education (CASE) received the inaugural Dean’s Impact Awards during a recognition event. Dr. Asia Eaton, Dr. Yannis Papastamatiou and Dr. Shayl Griffith were selected based on their outstanding achievements, impactful research and strategic collaborations with local and regional partners.


Dr. Asia Eaton was recognized for her achievements in psychology and social psychology. Her research has been featured in national and international publications including, New York Times, Forbes and Newsweek. In addition, she has received several national awards for her contributions to the field of psychology.

Dr. Yannis Papastamatiou has conducted impactful research on marine biology. He has studied the biology of sharks and other predatory fishes for 15 years and published nearly 50 scientific articles in these topic areas. His publicized work has been instrumental in maintaining FIU’s status as one of the top universities for marine research.

Dr. Shayl Griffith has demonstrated an impressive ability to collaborate with local and regional partners to do research on educational practices. Her research is focused on the social-emotional, behavioral and academic development of young children, particularly within the context of family technology use and digital home learning environments.

All three of these award recipients were presented with a check during the Faculty Recognition Awards event which celebrates individuals for demonstrating outstanding work in the areas of research, teaching, service or community engagement.
