Award-Winning Author Judy Blume Visits FIU

SEAS Dean Ana Luszczynska, Author Judy Blume, Creative Writing Program Founding Director Les Standiford

FIU’s Creative Writing Program hosted Judy Blume on the Biscayne Bay Campus in March. Students, faculty and community members had a chance to meet the award-winning author. Blume has published more than 26 novels and significantly contributed to children’s and young adult literature. Her best-known works include Are you there God? It’s Me, Margaret, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and Blubber.

During the event at the Wolfe University Center, Blume read an excerpt from her latest book, In the Unlikely Event, a novel which follows a fifteen-year-old and her family and friends as they cope with three plane crashes. She also answered questions from the audience about her writing background and where she finds inspiration. She also took time to autograph her books and encourage future writers to pursue their passions.
