A note of thanks from Wertheim Innovation Faculty Grant recipient

I was grateful to be the recipient of the first Wertheim Innovation Faculty Grant awarded by the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The grant is funding my study on “Piloting diet and exercise interventions in older Hispanics with diabetes.”
Twice as many Hispanics have type 2 diabetes compared to non-Hispanic whites, and older adults with type 2 diabetes often have mobility impairments and suffer falls. The objective of this study is to pilot test the effectiveness of nutrition and exercise interventions to improve diabetes management and physical function, and reduce falls and healthcare utilization by disadvantaged older Hispanics with type 2 diabetes.
