  • Marine scientists at the College were part of an international effort to secure protection for 13 shark and ray species with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, and their efforts continue.
  • The Institute of Water and Environment’s research teams lead the longest and most comprehensive monitoring program of the Florida Everglades – the largest environmental restoration program in our nation’s history.
  • One of the largest teams of tropical scientists in the country, FIU Tropics has been awarded $10 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
  • More than 3,000 families receive clinical services from the Center for Children and Families each year.

  • The College of Engineering & Computing is one of the largest engineering colleges in the country (No. 32 in ASEE 2017 Rankings)—and one of the largest in enrollment of Hispanic students at a majority-minority institution.
  • The College is the largest producer of Hispanic engineers and the ninth-largest producer of African American or black engineers in the country. It is also the third-largest producer of engineers in Florida.
  • The College is home to four faculty who are members of the prestigious National Academy of Inventors.

  • The Community-Based Research Institute (CBRI) received a $13.1 million grant from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities to build South Florida’s first Health Disparities Research Center at a Minority Institution, called FIU-RCMI.

  • The Museum received the 2018 Experts’ Choice Award from TripExpert, given to fewer than 2% of attractions worldwide.
  • The Wolfonsian was named the New Times “Best Museum” in 2016 and is ranked No. 23 out of 50 for amazing college museums by CollegeRank.net.

Jewish Museum of Florida–FIU

  • The Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU is comprised of two adjacent Art Deco buildings, formerly synagogues for the first Jewish congregation on Miami Beach. These buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
  • Accredited by the American Association of Museums, the Museum’s collections encompass more than 100,000 items that reflect over 250 years of Jewish history, culture, and art.
  • The Museum is activated through many academic programs at FIU, such as the Jewish Studies Certificate Program and the Holocaust Studies Initiative of the Steven J. Green School of International & Public Affairs.

Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum

  • The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum has more than 6,000 objects in its permanent collection and sees over 35,000 visitors annually.
  • The Museum is one of just three art institutions in Florida chosen for inclusion in the Google Art Project.
