A Family Legacy Honoring Dr. Robert R. Stempel
Long before the Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work bore his name, Robert R. Stempel, Ph.D. worked relentlessly to foster excellence in his students and the research community. “Bob was a dear friend and a wonderful colleague,” said Professor William Darrow. “He was loved by his students from the first moment they met because he was concerned about them personally and professionally,” he said. Dr. Stempel joined the College in 1991 after earning a doctorate in public health from the University of California at Berkley.
Setting the Stage for FIU Theatre
A 30-year investment in building a successful theatre program at FIU is now further supported by matching funds. Associate professor, artistic director of FIU Theatre and chair of the Department of Theatre, Marilyn R. Skow matched dollar for dollar the donations of the department’s faculty and staff to the Ignite Campaign.

Dale Segal represents the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) with pride. A recipient of the FIU HWCOM Tuition Remission Scholarship, Dale has the support of the College to pursue his dream of becoming an orthopedic surgeon.

A new scholarship will benefit first generation law students at FIU. In honor of Judge Henry Leyte-Vidal, The Honorable Henry Leyte-Vidal Scholarship is made possible through a gift from College of Law graduate Marco A. Leyte-Vidal III ’10, cousin of the Judge.
Museum Goes Virtual
The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum at FIU recently announced the launch of the Virtual Frost Art Museum, a new website that enables art enthusiasts to view exhibitions from their computer or smart phone, thanks to a $35,000 matching grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation as part of its Knight Arts Challenge. The Virtual Frost Art Museum can be accessed by visiting http://virtual.frostartmuseum.org.

Building on this history, a small team of dedicated and visionary people, driven by an entrepreneurial spirit and a willingness to adapt and persevere, imagined the FIU we have today and spent their lives making it a reality.
